Star Wars was big around the time that an eleven year old showed me his drawings inspired by the movie. Looking at the latest pictures from NASA and the Hubble Telescope seems that the stars themselves are engaged in a constant war out there. What with colliding galaxies, exploding giants and dwarves, multiple thermonuclear explosions right across the universe makes you wonder why man constantly and disgracefully seems driven to simulate this destruction. All the new evidence of the Star Wars mayhem out there is of course from light-years long gone but doubtless still continuing.

I recall a wonderful piece of graffiti whitewashed in giant letters onto a long wall in the Tufnell Park area of London. It was at the height of the Women´s liberation movement and soon after the landing on the Moon. It simply proclaimed. `IF THEY CAN PUT A MAN ON THE MOON WHY DON´T THEY PUT THEM ALL THERE?

Onto the first poem.

And that eleven year old was Sam Proud, of Proudspark. The brains and inspiration behind the present website. So, all thanks to him!
THE GINGERBREAD ALIEN

Run, run, as fast as you can
you can’t catch me
I’m the Chewbacca
Gingerbread Man!
Fly, fly, as high as you will
you won’t beat me
It’s Chewbacca Ten
Whoever-you-are nil.
Skip, skip, as quick as you like
you can’t fox me
I can get across rivers
on me Star-Wars bike.
R2D2 SQUARED
I’m R 2 D 2 Squared.
You see my shape is very weird.
They fitted me with funny legs;
the last they had in stock – the dregs.
So one’s foot’s bigger than the other
and all my wiring’s wrong.
Another disadvantage that I suffer,
which makes a robot’s life much tougher,
is speaking with an Android stutter.
You have to drop your voice and mutter,
when meeting Droids of fair proportion,
and speak your words with care and caution:
It´s no good saying p – p – please! ”
“C – c – c – could you check my circuits
before my brain-box b- b – blows to bits?”

I love it, especially Terezinha and the moon.
I wish I could still draw like that….
One for all Star-wars fans who appreciate a good laugh.
